Preparing Online School Students for Graduation in Florida
Florida Connections Academy works closely with families to ensure that students understand graduation requirements in Florida and have the support they need to fulfill those requirements. Our comprehensive high school curriculum is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in the classroom—long after graduation.
EARN YOUR HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA IN FLORIDA
Students who attend online school and meet Florida graduation requirements receive the same diploma as their peers who attend brick-and-mortar public schools in the state.
How Many Credits Do You Need to Graduate High School in Florida?
Beginning with the 2023-2024 Cohort and all others after, Florida Connections Academy offers two options to earn a high school diploma: Standard High School Diploma (24-credits) and Academically Challenging Curriculum to Enhance Learning (ACCEL) option (18-credits). Students must successfully earn a 2.0 or higher grade point average (GPA) to graduate and participate in state tests. Specific Florida Graduation Requirements can be found here.
Students must successfully earn a minimum of 24 credits and a 2.0 grade point average (GPA) to graduate and participate in state tests. Be sure to check your school handbook for updates.
The course credits required to graduate are included below.
Florida Connections Academy Standard Diploma High School Credit Requirements
- English/Language Arts: 4 credits
- Math: 4 credits
- Science: 3 credits
- Social studies: 3 credits
- Fine and Performing Arts, Speech and Debate, Career and Technical Education, or Practical Arts: 1 credit
- Physical Education with the integration of Health: 1 credit
- Elective Courses: 7.5 credits
- Personal Financial Literacy: 0.5 credits
Students must also pass the following statewide assessments:
- Grade 10 English Language Arts or a concordant score
- Algebra I end-of-course (EOC); the results constitute 30 percent of the final course grade or a comparative score.
Refer to Graduation Requirements for Florida’s Statewide Assessments for concordant and comparative scores. Students enrolled in the following courses must participate in EOC assessments, which constitute 30 percent of the final course grade:
- Algebra 1
- Geometry
- Biology I
- U.S. History
